Climate change has left visible and still invisible traces in the forests of the Darmstadt Forest Department. As a result of the extreme heat and drought of last summer, many trees dried out. This applies not only to young trees that have not yet taken root, but also to larger trees. New forests must be planted which are more resistant to extreme weather events. A near-natural forest edge will also protect the stocks downstream and increase their ecological value through a variety of tree and shrub species.
