I've always had close contact with older people, whether it was grandma or grandpa, an elderly lady in the village who always looked out for me, or volunteer afternoons in the retirement home during school time. It is so important to always provide a bit of variety in the retirement home, make new contacts, simply spend time together and share stories. For senior citizens, this usually has more effect than you think. I therefore really appreciate the work of volunteers in the nursing home and like to come back more often!
The lady with whom I was able to spend the afternoon told me her stories from the beginning approximately every 10 minutes. But it was precisely for this reason that she had not lost her zest for life despite her dementia and talked about her life again and again with pride and joy.
There wasn't a point I didn't like - but it's true that you come home and have an oppressive feeling. Getting old isn't always nice, illnesses are brought to your attention, you often have to tell the residents the same thing 20 times, a lot of patience is required and, above all, stamina. You can see how the staff takes care of the residents with so much love despite difficult circumstances and that's why I think that much more emphasis should be placed on this important work.
Very important! Institutions, associations, aid organizations, etc. are often simply dependent on it. I myself also volunteer privately on a permanent basis and grew up with a father who was a volunteer paramedic for over 40 years. It was virtually placed in my cradle. 😉
You appreciate health and time spent with loved ones again. That is often lost in everyday life...
thankful — lovely — appreciative (towards the work of nurses)
Just great and especially important when volunteer work is also possible and supported by the employer!! 🤍
