Experience report: A day with the children of the ark

Philipp took part in the Social Day project “A day with the children of the ark” because he grew up near the ark in Moosach and attended the same elementary school that the children from the ark attend in the afternoon. His goal was to give the children a good day, to support them in playing, learning and reading, and at the same time to relieve employees. He was particularly impressed by the children's gratitude and joy, as well as their open and warm way of welcoming the guests. The importance of the ark for disadvantaged children became clear to him, and he recognized the importance of volunteer work. He describes his volunteering experience with the words gratitude, joy and fun and is already looking forward to the next project. He is already signed up:).

Why did you participate in the project?

I grew up not far from the ark in Moosach. Was also allowed to attend the same elementary school from which the kids entered the Archekamen from the morning on. It was important to me here to also give the children a nice day and to help them play, learn or read. Also to relieve employees a bit and do general work in-house. Sorting through the many donations or setting up new goals, etc., was also a support for the team, which often has no time at all for such tasks.

What did you particularly like?

To see the gratitude and joy of the kids. How openly and warmly every single child welcomed us guests and almost did not want to let us go anymore. How sincerely uncool it would be just to be a friend for a day really touched me. It was impossible to return to a promise here.

What did you perhaps not like so much?

There was nothing

How important is volunteer work to you?

I've worked far too little here so far, but after the day I really realized how necessary such support is.

What are you taking away from the project?

How important the ark is for disadvantaged children. How many grievances or even support the children need. When kids from Ukraine cringe when you hear a bang coming from a door. Be it a tent that we set up and children remember tents in Africa in which they had to live. The children are grateful for every second they spend with them.
